Blizzards uses short animations and a few other methods to tell the story behind Overwatch. After a robotic assault on humanity by the 'Omnics', which were robots intended to help create economic equality, each country responded with various programs. The United States developed the Soldier Enhancement Program, which was meant to create elite fighters to combat the attacks. By contrast, Germany created the Crusaders, which were more reminiscent of medieval knights. All of these programs were eventually combined to create Overwatch.

Thirty years after the Omnics attacked, and six years after Overwatch was dismantled due to intense infighting and mishandling, corrupt corporations prompted others to take up the mantle and attempt to reassemble Overwatch. The story is surprisingly detailed and more than enough to make things interesting for players that like their games to have a little more depth.

Overwatch is developed by none other than Blizzard Entertainment. As one of the biggest names in the gaming industry for decades, Blizzard knows how to assemble a game that draws players in and immerses them in story and quality gameplay. Blizzard was established in 1991, and has blown up into one of the most well known video game developers in the world. Blizzard brought us such video game giants as World of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. It is hardly a stretch to say that Blizzard is a titan in the gaming industry, so it is easy to believe that Overwatch is worth checking out.

In January 2020 an update was announced that was supposed to make several changes, including a new option in the main menu called the 'experiment card' which allows players to try out a few of the development options that did not get added to the full game. Overwatch is still updated regularly, and maintains a high enough player count to warrant constant attention from Blizzard.
