The Sims 4 was developed by Maxis, which is a division of Electronic Arts. Although the studio was founded by Will Wright and Jeff Braun in 1987, it was purchased by EA tens years later. Originally, Maxis was fairly successful with their hit game, SimCity, but they moved away from the Sim franchise for a while, and the studio declined so much that they began to consider selling to another company, which is what led to the acquisition by Electronic Arts.
