World of Warcraft, you know it, you love it. It's not really overstating it to call WoW the king of games. At the very least, the Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) is at the top of the gaming industry. While World of Warcraft is not consistently at the very top of the lists for most played games, it's always in the running. Over 100 million unique accounts have been created on WoW since its release in November of 2004. Very few other games can compete with World of Warcraft when it comes to longevity, profitability, and player count. World of Warcraft is available on Windows or Mac.

In an MMORPG, an interesting plot and setting are even more essential than for other games. The setting of World of Warcraft is Azoroth, the fictional home of several races of creatures that are constantly at war with each other. There are two playable factions in WoW, including the Alliance and the Horde. Within each faction there are seven standard races that can be played. In the Alliance you can play Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Draenei, Worgen, Pandaren. In the Horde you will find Orcs, Trolls, Undead, Tauren, Blood Elves, Goblins, and Pandarens. Each race has different class options. Not all races can be all classes. All of the class options are Warriors, Hunters, Priests, Shaman, Warlock, Druid, Paladin, Rogue, Death Knight, Mage, Monk, and Demon Hunter.

World of Warcraft was developed by Blizzard Entertainment and released in 2004. Blizzard Entertainment is an American video game developer established in 1991. Originally the company was called Silicon & Synapse, Inc, then Chaos Studios, then Blizzard Entertainment Their main headquarters is found in Irvine, California. Even before the release of World of Warcraft, Blizzard had a great deal of success with other games like the Warcraft series and Diablo.

World of Warcraft has been nominated for so many awards, and won so many awards, that it would be too much to list in this article. For the sake of simplicity, here is a list of the awards that the original release won.

As was mentioned earlier, World of Warcraft has over 100 million unique accounts. In 2009, WoW was the most played MMO with over 10 million players online at the same time. These aren't record-setting numbers any more, but they are very impressive. By 2017, WoW had brought in 9.23 billion dollars in revenue.

World of Warcraft has had seven major expansions, and countless updates. The expansions were Legion, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of The Lich King, Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, and Battle for Azeroth. WoW also has annual holiday events, and many other events and in-game festivals.

The biggest piece of recent WoW news is the release of WoW Classic, which allows players to enjoy the game as it was released in 2004. The classic version of the game was so well-liked that it overloaded the servers. Since then, the player count has dropped significantly, but it is still very popular for a 15 year old game.

Overall, WoW has been a resounding success in the gaming world. While it's success has leveled out over the years, it is still making the developers a lot of money, so it probably will be around for a good long time.
