While the gameplay and action in this game are fast-paced and fun, the story is where the real draw is. The setting of the game is the Continent, which is a fictional world that is surrounded by alternate dimensions and extra-dimensional worlds. This is a sort of high-fantasy world, in which eleves, dwarves, monsters, and many other mythical creatures exist alongside humans. The Continent is a war-torn place, with two empires constantly at war with each other; Nilfgaard and Redenia.
The main character of the game is Geralt of Rivia, who is a monster hunter of famed skill. Geralt spent his entire life being trained to hunt monsters by practicing several martial skills, as well as being enhanced by certain mutagens. The story follows Geralt through many perils and adventures as he tracks down his lost adopted daughter Ciri, while being dragged deeper and deeper into the war between Nilfgaard and Redenia, and many other sub-plots.
Developer
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was developed by CD Projekt Red. CD Projekt Red was founded in 1994 by Marcin Iwinski and Michal Kicinski. It is headquartered in Warsaw, Poland. Although the development company has not taken part in developing any other highly successful games, The Witcher series has been a wild success overall.
Awards and Success
The entire Witcher series has been wildly popular since it was introduced, and The Witcher 3:Wild Hunt is no exception. The game sold six million copies in the first six weeks after its release in 2015. In the first half of that year, the game made the developers a profit of 63 million dollars.
The Witcher 3 has received several awards, and has been nominated for many more:

- Won IGN's E3 People's Choice Award in 2013 and 2014 (pre-release)

Since the game is now five years old, there are not a lot of updates to the game directly anymore. However, there was recently a Netflix original series released that is based off of the game, and the series has received high praise. There is also word that the game will be available for Xbox Game Pass soon.
